Abstract
This work reports the intermediate results of an ongoing
project that leverages the knowledge and experience of
information technology professionals and academics in a
comprehensive study of the process of developing and
deploying component-based software. By studying a newly
developed component-based development (CBD)
methodology through its application to the creation of a
critical business software application, the case study
focuses on describing the methods, techniques, and
process workflow unique to this CBD methodology. An
evaluation of its best practices and of those activities
that have not produced the results as predicted is addressed.
The Software
Engineering Institute (SEI) is a federally funded research and
development center sponsored by the U.S. Department of Defense
and operated by Carnegie Mellon University.
